WPS registration: Which categories are mandatory and which are voluntary?

[ad_1]

As an employer of a domestic worker, you may be wondering if you are required to register your worker under the Wage Protection System (WPS). The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) recently mandated the registration of five professions of domestic workers under WPS. However, there are several other categories of domestic workers, such as housekeepers, nannies, and drivers, who are not required to be registered with WPS. Employers have the option to voluntarily register these workers if they wish to do so.

It’s important to understand which professions of workers require mandatory registration and which are voluntary. To help you navigate this process, we have compiled all the information you need to know.

By registering your domestic worker under WPS, you are ensuring that they receive their wages on time and in full. This system also provides a level of protection for both employers and workers, as it helps to prevent wage disputes and ensures that all parties are aware of their rights and responsibilities.

So, if you’re unsure about whether or not to register your domestic worker under WPS, take the time to review the information provided by MOHRE and consider the benefits of doing so. It’s a small step that can make a big difference for both you and your worker.

Five professions that need to be registered with WPS

MOHRE had also informed employers earlier this month of the five different categories of domestic employees that needed to be registered with WPS. Beginning on April 1, 2023, MOHRE began implementing WPS for the following occupations:

  1. Personal tutor
  2. Private agricultural engineer
  3. PRO (Public Relations Officer)
  4. Personal trainer
  5. Home care provider

Registration of 14 domestic worker professions is voluntary

However, you can offer to register your domestic helper with WPS if they fall under any of the following categories of the profession:

  1. Nanny/babysitter
    2. Housekeeper
    3. Housemaid
    4. Sailor
    5. Cook
    6. Security guard
    7. Personal driver
    8. Household shepherd
    9. Household horse groomer
    10. Physical labor worker
    11. Household falcon trainer
    12. Farmer
    13. Gardener
    14. Tamer

Why should you pay through WPS?

The advantages of registering your domestic helper with WPS, according to MOHRE, are as follows:

  • Maintaining the employer’s ability to demonstrate how salaries were paid.
  • Simplifying the process of paying a domestic worker’s earnings from the employer.
  • Providing prompt wage payments.
  • fostering the parties’ relationship’s stability.

How to register a domestic worker with WPS

You must first confirm that you have both your Emirates ID and the employee’s Emirates ID on hand, according to MOHRE. The worker must next be registered with WPS by going to one of the authorized banks, financial institutions, or money exchange businesses.
